- Shower normally the evening or morning prior to your surgery. Do not apply any lotions, make-up, or perfumes to the operative area prior to surgery. Do not apply nail polish prior to surgery since in some cases it may need to be removed to allow some monitoring equipment to work properly. Do not shave any areas the day of your surgery; if this is required, surgery personnel will do it for you.
- If you develop any rashes, cuts, burns or abrasions on the operative extremity prior to surgery, let the office know by phone in advance of your surgery date.
- Do not have anything to eat or drink after midnight prior to your surgery unless given specific instructions to do so. You may have a sip of water with any scheduled heart, blood pressure, thyroid, or breathing medications. Take these medications at the time you normally take them. Do not take your regularly scheduled diabetic medication unless specifically instructed by your medical doctor or surgeon.
- Arrive at least one hour prior to the time of your scheduled procedure.
- Please wear comfortable, loose clothing appropriate for the procedure being performed.
- Nail polish, makeup, jewelry, and watches should not be worn the day of surgery. Possible exceptions should be specifically discussed with the pre-op nurse or anesthesiologist.
- Do not bring any valuables with you. The Surgery Center is not responsible for any lost or misplaced items.
- Let our office know where you may be reached on the day of surgery as schedules change with cancellations and delays, which may make it necessary to adjust your surgery time.
- If not already scheduled preoperatively, please call the office the next business day following surgery to schedule a follow-up appointment.
- We require that you make arrangements for a responsible adult to drive you home, and ideally to stay with you the first night following your surgery.
- If you suspect that you are pregnant, please notify your physician and anesthesia personnel. A pregnancy test will be performed on all women of childbearing age prior to surgery. Anesthesia and medications may be harmful to the developing fetus.
- If you experience any health changes between your last visit to your physician and the time of your procedure, please notify your physician immediately. Please report even minor changes, such as an elevated temperature, cold, or cough.
- A physician is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergencies and may be reached through the answering service by calling the regular office. Please notify your physician for increasing pain, numbness, redness, temperature greater than 101°F, or any other problems or questions.
